PDO Threads
PDO Thread, short for polydioxanone thread, is an absorbable suture that is made up of solid protein that is thinner than a piece of hair. Once placed under the skin, there is an increase of blood flow and stimulation of elastin and collagen production. This procedure can assist in lifting, volumizing, and rejuvenating the skin. PDO threads provide natural results, is minimally invasive, relatively quick, builds your own natural collagen, and provides immediate results that improve over time. Other benefits include minimal risk for scarring, has a high safety profile, and minimal tissue reaction.
General Procedure
Typically, a lidocaine injection or other form of numbing agent is applied to the indicated areas. The threads are introduced into the skin through a fine needle into the skin, the muscle, or the subcutaneous fat. The treatment results in an immediate improvement in appearance but results continue to improve in terms of overall texture, becoming thicker, tighter, and firmer as fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.
Recovery Process
Typically, clients have no problem resuming normal activities immediately after treatment so long as post treatment instructions are followed. Some pain and discomfort is to be expected after treatment. Some clients have reported swelling and bruising. It is important that no other aesthetic procedures are done for 7 days. Likewise, clients should avoid extreme temperatures, alcohol, and anticoagulants for 7 days. Those prescribed anticoagulants must be aware that bruising is more likely, and also must have direction from their prescribing doctor as to whether or not this procedure is suitable. IPL, radiofrequency, and laser should not be done for 10 weeks. Lastly, massaging and over stretching of the treated areas should be avoided for 4 weeks.
